US Pavilion – Venice Biennale

US Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2022 – Artist Simone Leigh. Design & Construction management by Sinfonia Group New York.

At the Venice Biennale 2022, artist Simone Leigh redefined the presence of the U.S. Pavilion, enveloping it in a striking thatch façade supported by imposing wooden columns, a transformation that challenged historical narratives and architectural conventions.

Extravega played a key role in realizing this ambitious installation, providing engineering, shop drawings, project management, fabrication, and logistics—navigating Venice’s intricate canal ways to deliver and install the pavilion’s metal substructure and wooden columns. Our expertise in precision metalwork and custom fabrication ensured the structural integrity and seamless execution of Leigh’s powerful vision.

The pavilion, commissioned by the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston and curated by Eva Respini, became a space of monumentality and symbolism, engaging with the African diaspora’s architectural heritage. Through our technical craftsmanship and problem-solving approach, Extravega helped bring to life a work that was not only visually compelling but structurally and logistically complex.

This project stands as yet another testament to Extravega’s ability to transform bold artistic concepts into enduring architectural statements, seamlessly merging art, engineering, and execution.
