The Shed – New York
At the heart of Hudson Yards, The Shed stands as a bold expression of architectural ingenuity, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with the Rockwell Group. More than just a cultural venue, it is a dynamic space that physically transforms, thanks to its massive telescopic outer shell that expands and retracts in just five minutes to accommodate performances, exhibitions, and large-scale installations.
Extravega was entrusted with the architectural metal and glass elements of this landmark project, awarded by Sciame, the general contractor. Our expertise shaped entrance doors, glass walls, and internal and external parapets, including the elegant barriers surrounding the escalators. Every detail was crafted in our workshop in Italy, with precision, ensuring a perfect balance between functionality, durability, and aesthetic harmony with the building’s fluid design.
Bringing this vision to life required cutting-edge engineering, meticulous craftsmanship, and seamless coordination with architects and builders. Extravega’s dedication to high-end, custom architectural solutions was essential in realizing The Shed’s ambition: a space that evolves with the ever-changing landscape of contemporary art and performance.
